Discussion on storm-induced liquefaction of the superficial stratum in the Yellow River subaqueous delta. OceanDocs
Xu, Guohui; Sun, Yongfu; Yu, Yueqian; Lin, Lin; Hu, Guanghai; Zhao, Qingpeng; Guo, Xiujun.
Geological disasters on the superficial seafloor were revealed in geological investigation on the Yellow River subaqueous delta. Combined with dynamic triaxial tests and wave flume experiments, occurring conditions and forming patterns of liquefaction as well as motion of the liquefied soil were explained in this paper. Based on the viewpoint that the geological disasters were formed due to silty soil liquefaction under storm waves, re-stratification issue of the superficial stratum was analyzed. Movement of the liquefied soil agreed with the wave, leading to differentiation of the soil particles. Research issues in respect of geological, environment and engineering of storm-induced liquefaction were also discussed.

Middle Pleistocene seismically induced clay diapirism in an intraplate zone, western Brittany, France ArchiMer
Van Vliet-lanoe, Brigitte; Authemayou, Christine; Molliex, Stephane; Field, Michael Hugh; Frechen, Manfred; Le Roy, Pascal; Perrot, Julie; Andrieu-ponel, Valerie; Gregoire, Gwendoline; Hallegouet, Bernard.
The Brittany region of France is located in a low seismicity intraplate zone. Most of the instrumented earthquakes are limited to a shallow crustal depth without surface rupture. A paleoseismological analysis was performed on deposits on the Crozon Peninsula and in the Elorn estuary. We highlight hydroplastic deformations induced by liquefaction leading to clay diapirism, which were likely triggered by past earthquakes. This diapirism seems to be frequent in continental nonconsolidated sediments and to develop on the inherited tectonic structures, when a shallow water table and confining layers exist. Timing of deformation is dated using paleoenvironmental data, and electron spin resonance and infrared-stimulated luminescence dating methods. Two seismic...

Processus Gravitaires et Évaluation de la Stabilité des Pentes : Approches Géologique et Géotechnique. Application à la marge algérienne et à l'effondrement de l'aéroport de Nice en 1979 ArchiMer
Dan, Gabriela.
The present work consists of two areas of interest: the Algerian margin and the area affected by the 1979 Nice slide. The first scientific survey, MARADJA, took place in 2003 in order to characterize the Algerian margin from a morpho-sedimentary point of view and to map the presence of mass-wasting deposits. Based on other two scientific surveys, PRISMA and MARADJA 2, the mechanical and physical properties of the Algerian sediment were defined. The geotechnical properties were used to identify the triggering mechanisms of the observed mass-wasting deposits and to assess the present-day slope stability. The main results are: • The sedimentary processes are clearly influenced by the morphology of the margin, which is controlled by the tectonics. The...

Soft liquefaction of the red seaweed Grateloupia turuturu Yamada by ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis process ArchiMer
Le Guillard, Cecile; Berge, Jean-pascal; Donnay-moreno, Claire; Bruzac, Sandrine; Ragon, Jean-yves; Baron, Regis; Fleurence, Joel; Dumay, Justine.
Ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis is a recent process, increasingly employed for plant biomass liquefaction and the recovery of soluble biomolecules. However, to our knowledge, it has never been used on seaweeds, particularly wet ones. The aim of this study was to compare the efficiency of three processes on the liquefaction of the red seaweed Grateloupia turuturu Yamada: enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE), ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE), and their combination, ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis (UAEH). These comparisons will allow the identification as to which process achieves the highest extraction yield of water-soluble compounds. For this purpose, experiments were conducted at 40 °C for 6 h using an enzymatic cocktail of four...

Ultrasound-assisted extraction of R-phycoerythrin from Grateloupia turuturu with and without enzyme addition ArchiMer
Le Guillard, Cecile; Dumay, Justine; Donnay-moreno, Claire; Bruzac, Sandrine; Ragon, Jean-yves; Fleurence, Joel; Berge, Jean-pascal.
The aim of this study was to compare two processes for the extraction of R-phycoerythrin (R-PE) from the red seaweed Grateloupia turuturu: ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis (UAEH). Process efficiencies were both evaluated by the yield of R-PE extraction and by the level of liquefaction. Experiments were conducted at 40 and 22 °C, for 6 h, using an enzymatic cocktail and an original ultrasonic flow-through reactor. R-PE appeared very sensitive to temperature, thus 22 °C is strongly recommended for its extraction by UAEH or UAE. However, the higher processing temperature (40 °C) clearly increased the extraction of water-soluble compounds (up to 91% of liquefaction). These two new processes are thus promising...
